Standing since the start of time
I've watched it grow, this world of mine
I've seen the seasons come and go
My limbs outstretched, my heart aglow
I was the first, I saw the start
I watched it grow then fall apart
I saw how man from nothing came
I even saw him poison the rain
So blind was he as wars he fought
That he's a guest it matters nought
He takes it all and returns none
Even from life he takes the fun
Stand you as I here limbs up high
Soak in the poison when roots are dry
Breathe in this air so full of lead
I think you too would envy the dead
But still there is time, it's not too late
My leafs aren't blocking up heavens gate
My roots still find some water sweet
And grass still grows beneath your feet
Come to me child and rest a while
Gaze through my boughs and spare a smile
As birds make nest within my crown
And squirrels scavenge on the ground
Take shade beneath my canopy
I ask not what you think of me
All that I ask is that one day
You'll spare a thought and come my way
